It has been considered for a long time that team building is the key to toning up efficiency in the corporate world. Employees putting their heads together are supposed to increase productivity and enhance the quality of output. This has been the opinion of most management experts. It results in the proliferation of workshops. There the bosses talk big about themselves and lay down guidelines for others. A new research finding indicates that a collective workshop may not do wonders. 92 IT companies have been surveyed and there the top performers are those which give sufficient private space to the employees. It is considered that individual initiative and thinking can produce better results.

The finding should provide fresh guidelines to the corporate sector. Slogging away in one’s cubicle, an employee can generate bright new ideas. It belies the concept that group brainstorming can be a wonderful exercise. Introverts, so far looked down upon, can deliver more than glib talkers. Casual coffee breaks can result in more innovative work than the drudgery of group discussions. Brainstorming can be actually more effective if the electronic route is taken. Through the computer one may express one’s ideas more freely and profusely. It has even been suggested that working online can do wonders. The burden of going to office and being cooped up in one’s office may then be dispensed with. But this will call for a greater sense of responsibility on the part of employees who are supposed to contribute to the pool of ideas on which organization culture can flourish.
