ITANAGAR (AP): Arunachal Pradesh government, headed by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, is working out a holistic plan for growth–centric development, its planning and finance minister Chowna Mein said.

Mein, who held discussions with Planning Commission recently, told PTI on Saturday that huge infrastructure development projects are on, including the ones under the Prime Minister’s package as initiated by former Chief Minister, Dorjee Khandu.

The minister, who also holds the PWD portfolio, said that he had projected to the Planning Commission about the huge agri-horti potential of the state and sought funds for its full utilisation.

The state recorded over three lakh metric tones horticulture production in 2010-11, a 200 per cent hike over previous years, while huge quantities of excellent quality orange, kiwi, ginger were being exported to other states and Bangladesh.

Mein said that if Meghalaya’s full potentials are explored it would not only benefit the people of the land-locked state but help push India’s GDP, which has been pegged at 8.2 per cent for 2011-2012.

The PMO has been constantly monitoring the progress, he said, adding that Union Doner Minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar had reviewed projects in the state as the PM’s envoy.

Director General Border Roads Lt Gen Ravi Shankar inspected roads being executed by BRO in Tawang sector the same day. A high level meeting has been called by the PMO on February 13 next for the purpose, he added. (PTI)
