SHILLONG: One year after its inauguration, the Science and Commerce College at Mawphlang is yet to see the light of day as re-tender notice for the project will be issued.
The foundation stone for the College was laid by former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on August, 2017. The total sanctioned cost of the project was more than Rs 36 crore.
Although the construction work for the college work has been allotted to contractors but the Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Of the Central government which handles the Non-Lapsable Central of Pool Resources (NLCPR), has cancelled the Work Orders of the Contractor as the work is to be taken as one package and can’t be allotted to different contractors.
Stating that he will follow up on the project, Mawphlang MLA, SK Sunn said, “There were attempts by the previous government to allot the work to different contractors which was disallowed by the Central government prompting the work orders to be cancelled and it required issuing re-tender notice.”
The college was slated to complete within two years which will include College Building, Hostel, Head of Department, Library and Archive, Principal’s quarter and others.
