SHILLONG: The Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) has assured that it will not allow insurgents to carry out anti-Indian activities on its soil.
BGB Sylhet sector commander Mohammad Nasir, while speaking to media persons in Tamabil recently, asserted that BGB has zero tolerance towards insurgents.
Making it clear that both India and Bangladesh want to carry forward the cordial relations, he asserted that there is no insurgent camps in his sector.
“If anyone tries to set up such camps, we will handle it accordingly”, he added.
Elaborating further, he said that the BGB does not foresee the possibility of insurgent camps being set up in Bangladesh in future since the country is densely populated and it would be difficult for insurgents to mingle with the people as they can be easily detected and neutralised.
BSF Commandant SR Khan said that increased patrolling in the area has made it difficult for insurgent to continue their illegal activities.
He too reiterated that there is no movement of insurgents in his area and BGB is cooperating with BSF in all aspects.
He also said that there is no influx from Bangladesh in his sector even as he admitted that cattle smuggling was prevalent in the area. He, however, said that BSF has strengthened border domination and the ongoing border fencing work will prove a deterrent for smugglers.
He also pointed out that the border residents in the area have been cooperating with BSF and reporting any illegal activity in the border region.
