NONGSTOIN: A surprise check by the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) at a labour camp of BSC C&C JV, a construction company, at Kynshi village revealed that the labourers were working without valid documents.
The inspection was carried out by HYC units of Mairang, Nongthliew and Myriaw and was led by HYC general secretary West Khasi Hills unit Wanteibok Lyngdoh and others.
None of the 60 labourers had any labour license but all of them were in possession of EPIC and Aadhaar cards. The HYC members met Santosh Kumar, the camp in-charge at Kynshi who informed that the company had registered all the labourers with the District Council. He said that there was no instruction from the District Council about the labourers getting individual licenses since the company was responsible for obtaining the licenses.
Expressing surprise at the sudden change in the license policy, HYC Mairang Circle president Makdonald Nongrang said that they would soon meet the KHADC CEM to seek clarification on the matter.
