SHILLONG: In an embarrassment to the Assembly Secretariat, the oath taking of the newly elected member Pius Marwein (UDP), which was fixed for 3 pm on Wednesday, has been postponed since Marwein is not free.
The first written intimation to the media from the Assembly Secretariat was that the oath taking will be held at 3 pm on Wednesday.
Later, another letter said the oath-taking will not take place as informed due to unavoidable circumstances and a new date will be fixed by the Speaker.
When contacted, the Speaker did not respond to the calls.
An Assembly official said it was after intimation to the newly elected member that the date and time were fixed.
“Later, we received information from him on Tuesday afternoon that he will not be able to reach Shillong,” the official added.
When contacted, an NPP functionary said the oath-taking of the chief minister, who got elected from South Tura, will be held later.
