Education cannot be a business product: Kalam

DULIAJAN (ASSAM): Fulfilling a long cherished dream of the students of Oil India Higher Secondary School, Duliajan, former President of India, scientist par excellence Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam on Friday inaugurated the school’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Dr Kalam inspired the two thousand strong audience comprising students of Oil India Higher Secondary School, other schools and colleges of greater Duliajan area and dignitaries invited for the function in his unique way by delivering a speech on how to become unique and also with an interactive session with the students.

In his speech, Dr Kalam said that establishment of a quality school in this region is an important corporate social responsibility mission.

He stressed the need for primary education and also said that education cannot be a business product or system.

Dr Kalam also mentioned Dr Bhupen Hazarika as one of the unique persons along with Madam Curie, Mother Teresa, Thomas Alva Edison while inspiring the young students with the idea of becoming unique.

Dr Kalam also laid the foundation stone of a Botanical Garden of Oil India Higher Secondary School, Duliajan and planted a sapling along with Nayan Mani Borah, Chairman and Managing Director of Oil India Limited.

Earlier, Principal Kalpana Baruah Kachari, in her welcome address, expressed gratitude to Dr A PJ Abdul Kalam for having accepted the humble invitation for inauguration of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the school.

She said that Dr Kalam was invited not because of his eminence as an internationally acclaimed scientist, but for his striking simplicity and unfathomable love for children who are the future of mankind.

She said that he was great not because he occupied the post of President of India for some years, but because of his greatness as a human being in the true sense of the term. He is a person who touched high standards of human values and that the school is blessed with his benign presence.

Nayan Mani Borah, Chairman and Managing Director of Oil India Limited also spoke in the occasion.
