SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance partners on Wednesday reiterated their commitment to the coalition government.
The members met in the city on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters, Sangma said winning South Tura by-poll was not a hurdle and the victory has motivated him even more.
“We will continue with our programme and policies and see that the state moves forward,” he said while admitting that the loss of MM Danggo in Ranikor was a shocker and disappointing for the party.
Sangma, however, expressed happiness that MDA partner UDP has won the by-election and “it is a well-balanced coalition and stability will be an important factor for the alliance”.
Sangma is leaving for Delhi on Thursday and he is expected to resign as Member of Parliament on September 4 or 5. He said he would attend a programme in Parliament to commemorate the birth anniversary of his father Purno Sangma on September 1.
Sangma is also scheduled to meet some Union ministers to discuss “important issues of the state”.
Felicitation
The MDA allies on Wednesday felicitated Sangma and Pius Marwein.
UDP leader Bindo Lanong spoke on behalf of UDP to express the party’s commitment to MDA. He said the by-election has strengthened the MDA and the bond between the partners.
Sangma thanked the coalition partners for supporting his candidature and campaigning for him and said the MDA partners would work together to ensure development.
He felicitated Marwein on behalf of the government and welcomed him in the MDA fold.
