SHILLONG: UDP’s Pius Marwein said on Thursday the party would decide whether to choose him for ministry and that his priority will be to develop the constituency with a special focus on roads.
The newly elected MLA, who was sworn in by Speaker Donkupar Roy on Thursday, said he would try his best to develop the constituency that is lagging on many fronts.
“My priority for the constituency is to develop road, health and education sector. My first step will be to have proper roads in the area as without roads, it is difficult to develop the area,” he said.
Asked about Cabinet berth, Marwein said “it depends on the party”.
UDP’s senior leader Bindo Lanong had recently said it would be good for Ranikor if Marwein was given a berth. NPP has already rejected the idea.
To a query on Congress role in his victory, Marwein denied it saying, “Congress had its own candidate. We did our work and they did their work.”
On allegations of money power in the Ranikor by-poll, the MLA said the election was not about money but people who wanted a change.
He also said he does not have any ill feelings for his rival candidate, MM Danggo and if he meets him, he would ask him to work together for the benefit of the constituency.
Many Cabinet ministers, senior party leaders, supporters, family and friends of Marwein were also present on the occasion.
