Empty trucks to be diverted through Bypass from Feb 13

SHILLONG: Residents of the city would heave a major sigh of relief as the Government has decided to divert empty trucks through the Shillong Bypass from February 13.

PWD Minister HDR Lyngdoh, who conducted a spot inspection of the ongoing construction work of the Umkhen Bridge and the Shillong Bypass on Monday, later said that the bridge would be officially inaugurated on February 13 following which the empty trucks plying through National Highway 40 would be diverted from Lad Umroi through Umkhen bridge via Nartiang to 8 miles in Jaintia Hills and connect to National Highway 44.

The Umkhen Bridge, being constructed at a cost of Rs 4.99 crore, is scheduled for completed by February 10.

It is believed that the move to divert empty trucks would provide major relief to residents of the city who are reeling under massive traffic congestion.
