Congested roads and lanes along Mawlai have become a stumbling block to the daily routine of the people of that area who have complained of frequent traffic jams in the locality.
With the drastic rise in the number of cars in the city, traffic jams have become a nuisance disrupting normal life and thanks to the narrow lanes and roadways like the ones in Mawlai Stand Bus and Mawdatbaki, the menace is becomes more intense.
The condition of the roads leading to NEHU and other villages of Mawlai are pathetic and adding to it the narrow lanes which lead to these places have compounded the miseries of the residents.
“I think there should be proper traffic management in this area. There are no traffic personnel in this part of the city, especially in the ever-busy Mawlai Stand Bus and the entry of heavy vehicles not only causes traffic hurdles but damages most of the already vulnerable road in the area”, said a resident of Mawlai.
“It’s time the people take the lead and arrange for a smooth flow of traffic by putting no-parking and no-u-turn signs in areas where there are possibilities of traffic jams”, said another resident.
Meanwhile, reacting to this problem, local MLA Founder S Cajee, recently laid foundation stones, one at Mawlai Mawroh and the other at Mawlai Phudmuri. The first was to extend the road from Mawroh to Pata with an intention to create a shortcut and the latter, to widen the narrow lane along Mawlai Phudmuri till Mawlai Mawdatbaki.
This positive move was applauded by the residents who hoped to see the work completed within the stipulated time and thanks to the upcoming 2013 elections, progress is noticed in the implementation of the said project with work going on in full swing. (Iban Mawrie)
