SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) central executive committee has requested L Kynjing, the sub-divisional officer of Sohra, to be vigilant over influx of migrants from Assam and Bangladesh.
General secretary Roy Kupar Synrem said, “The areas falling under the sub-division such as Ichamati, Shella, Tyllab, Beltoli and Mawlong may face problem with illegal immigrants.”
The organisation has urged the SDO to conduct inspection and check documents of people as there were claims that “foreigners have entered the areas”.
“The SDO has assured us that he will organise a meeting of the traditional heads, businessmen and HYC on September 11 to find out ways and means to prevent illegal influx, especially in areas along the Meghalaya-Bangladesh border,” Synrem said.
