TURA: Deficit school teachers from North and South West Garo Hills have decided to boycott the general Teachers’ Day programme to be organised by the education department on September 5, in protest against the failure of the concerned authorities to release their pending salaries.

The teachers under the banner of the Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers’ and Employees’ Association (GHDSTEA) on Monday dashed off a letter of complaint to the Director of School Education and Literacy in Shillong,  where they informed that three months’ salary from June to August this year were still to be disbursed to the teachers in both districts.

According to the teachers, the cause of the delay in South West Garo Hills is the long absence of the head of the government establishment who failed to make any alternative arrangement, while in North Garo Hills, it was due to lack of financial power to the newly appointed DSEO.

Whatever the reason for the delay the teachers said that it was unnecessary harassment to them and has urged the Education Director to look into the matter at the earliest.
