SHILLONG: All is not well in the Shillong Lajong FC camp as the team central defender Aibor Khongjee has expressed disappointment over the remarks made by coach Pradhyum Reddy recently.

Reddy had accused Khongjee of faking a hamstring injury due to the pressure of playing in front of the home fans.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Khongjee said that Reddy has come out with this allegation out of desperation after facing back-to-back defeats against leaders Dempo FC and Churchill Brother’s at home.

He said that there is no truth in the statement that he pretended to suffer from a hamstring injury.

“It’s the dream of every player to play in front of his home crowd and I am no different. I was eager to take the field in Shillong before the fans who have appreciated my game throughout,” Khongjee said while adding that it is only because of the injury he skipped all the three home matches here.

He further said that the coach should take responsibility for the team’s dismal performance.

“This kind of accusation shows the uselessness of the coach,” the central defender added.

Earlier, on Saturday, Lajong coach Pradhyum Reddy had expressed his disappointment over the team’s performance against Pune FC and had accused Khongjee of pretending to suffer from a hamstring injury.

“If Khongjee is suffering from a hamstring injury, he requires a physio or a doctor. I think it was the pressure of playing in front of the home fans which has kept him away from the playing arena. Had he been injured, he would not have been in a position to make himself available for the match against HAL at Bangalore on February 1,” Reddy had said during the post match conference on Saturday last.
