12 organisations meet HLC chairman on Iew Them Mawlong issue.

SHILLONG:  A delegation of 12 organisations met the Deputy Chief Minister and chairman of High Level Committee (HLC) Prestone Tynsong to seek information on the progress of the High Level Committee tasked to look in to the Iew Them Mawlong issue.

“Three months have passed since June 1.From day 1, we have told the Chief Minister (Conrad Sangma) that the High Level Committee formed to look into the issue of Iew Them Mawlong should not end up like other committees which were formed and then fade into oblivion,” general secretary of Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), Roy Kupar Synrem said.

They reiterated their demand to relocate the illegal and legal settlers, i.e. the employees of Shillong Municipal Board.

Following up on the matter, the organizations met Tynsong to seek an update into the High Level committee. Synrem said, “The HLC has had over five meetings and the work was  said to be  progressing. He informed us that inventorization is complete.”

Tynsong informed the organisations that there were128 employees working in Shillong Municipal Board who are settled there. He said there were also employees of other government departments who had settled at Iew Them Mawlong.

“He (Tynsong) said 90 per cent of the work is complete. After completion of the remaining task, the HLC will submit its recommendations to the state government,” Synrem said.

Referring to some committees that went unfruitful, the organizations urged the chairman of HLC to not delay the issue.

The representatives of  following organisations met the chairman of the HLC on Tuesday : HYC, Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (HANM), East Jaiñtia National Council (EJNC), Confederation of Ri-Bhoi People (CoRP), Ri-Bhoi Students’ Union (RBSU), West Khasi Students’ Union (WKSU), Western Youth Federation (WYF), Synjuk ki Seng Samla Shnong (SSSS), Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU), Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF), Meghalaya People’s United Front (MPUF), All Jaiñtia Students Union (AJSU).
