JOWAI: The Muster Roll Workers’ and Labours’ Union in Jaintia Hills has set a two months deadline before the state government to fulfill their various demands including regular payment of wages and salary hike.
In a meeting held at Dulong Community Hall on Saturday, the association expressed their grievances and stated that the government has always neglected them.
Earlier, the association had also submitted a memorandum to Labour Minister Prestone Tynsong which highlighted their plights and which also stated that if the government failed to fulfill their demands in a month’s time they would have no other choice but to take their own course of action.
The President of the Association Lamsakhiat Pariat informed that Muster roll workers are getting only four days holiday in a year and demanded that they should be provided with 120 days holiday in a year without deduction of wages along with paid maternity leave.
Meanwhile, Pariat said that the government has decided to hike the wages of muster roll workers to Rs 300 per day since June however; the hike was only from Rs 184 to Rs 189.
“We also demanded that the government and the department concerned should implement the Meghalaya Building Scheme and other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board for all Muster Roll workers,” said Pariat.
