SHILLONG: Governor Tathagata Roy bemoaned that the advancement in Information Technology (IT) has reduced social interactions and reading habits among young generations.
He was delivering the inaugural speech at the two-day International Conference on Bridging the Digital Divide–Role of Libraries and Information with Special Reference to the Northeastern Region at Shillong College.
The governor went on to state that progress in inevitable, he hoped that printed word will still maintain its utility.
Roy highlighted on the advancements and progress of Information Technology in the country and noted that though constraints were present yet possible efforts are being made to make fast inroads in this area.
The valedictory function was also attended by Social Welfare Minister, Kyrmen Shylla.
The statement from Shillong College said that the conference was attended by librarians and faculty members from Universities of neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bangladesh as well as participants from within the country.
