Shylla asks HYC to check trading licence in WKH

SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) chief executive member, HS Shylla, has directed members of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) to inspect labour licences at Rwiang and Kynshi in West Khasi Hills.
The organisation complained to Shylla on Wednesday about labourers in factories in the district working without licence. The local unit of HYC also informed the KHADC chief that workers in a company at Rwiang and those working for road construction company BSCCC&JV at Kynshi do not have licence from the council.
The CEM assured the organisation that he, along with the officials and enforcement personnel of the council, would inspect the factory on September 19.
Pollution
The organisation also met the member-secretary of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board, JH Nengnong, to complain against Shree Shakambari Ferro Alloys Pvt Ltd at Rwiang over environmental pollution with effluents from the factory released into the Rwiang river. The organisation conducted an inspection in the factory following complaints from the Sordar Shnong B Mawlieh and women organisations.
The pollution of water bodies in the village posed a threat to aquatic life.
HYC was informed that MSPCB will conduct a joint inspection along with the office of the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills in the coming week. HYC members will also be present.
