SHILLONG: Several women from Jowai, Shangpung and Nongkhroh supported by CSWO met JHADC chief executive member Madon Rymbai on Wednesday in his office to know whether a lineage bill similar to that of KHADC’s will be passed in JHADC too.
The women expressed concerns over any such move.
CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said though the JHADC CEM assured that there was no such intention, he said all views and opinions, would be taken from all concerned, especially from Seng Kur and village heads.
According to him, the JHADC will seek feedback and carry out proper debate before taking any decision.
The priority of the JHADC is how to generate revenue and tackle benami, which is rampant even in Jaintia Hills.
The CEM said bills should first be in the public domain as many bills were passed by the councils only to be rejected by courts terming them as unconstitutional. He also assured the women’s delegation that nothing unconstitutional will be done.
