SHILLONG: A delegation of Narpuh Border Area Joint Action Committee on Thursday met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and urged him to set up the Community and Rural Development Block at Lumshnong instead of Wapung in East Jaintia Hills. However, Sangma informed them that the state government is facing financial constraints and will not be able to come up with a C&RD Block at Lumshnong and Wapung and the Block will function only from Khliehriat.
In a memorandum to the chief minister, the committee pointed out the villages at the Narpuh border area is lacking behind in development and overall progress as government offices are far off.
The committee argued that Lumshnong village is accessible and convenient for the inhabitants of Narpuh Border area, the surrounding villages and even for villages from other part of the area of the subsisting C & RD Block.
