SHILLONG: A review meeting was held on Friday to figure out the contentious issue of railway projects in Meghalaya where two railway projects have remained stalled.
Speaking to reporters after a review meeting with the officials from Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday said, “The meeting was called to understand the current status of railway projects in Meghalaya. The General Manager has spoken to us about the kind of sanctions and status of the budget.”
On the implementation of railway lines, he said, “We feel it is an important economic development that is prevalent in every part of the world. It is something, we feel, will change the economic scenario in our state and it is an important infrastructure which our state does require.”
Observing the concerns of the local people and organisations that had led to stiff resistance against the railway projects from certain groups, Sangma said it was the duty of the government to understand and ensure that the local sentiments were not hurt.
“So we need to balanced it out and take things forward,” he said.
