LGBTQ community takes out ‘pride walk’

SHILLONG: The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) Community in Shillong took out a ‘pride walk’ on Friday to celebrate the recent Supreme Court’s verdict on gay sex.
The pride walk, organised by Manbha Foundation and Shamakami, commenced from Madan Iewrynghep, Laitumkhrah.
NGO members, students from St. Edmund’s College, Martin Luther Christian University, IIPS and members of the LGBTQ community from Kolkata, Guwahati, Delhi and other cities took part in the pride walk.
Over 300 members belonging to the LGBQT community have so far registered their names at Shamakami. The total population of the LGBQT community in the state is expected to be around 1000.
