TURA: Employees of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) began their three-day strike on Monday despite the authorities’ persuasion.
The protest against the failure of the authorities to release pending dues is being staged under the banner of the Non-Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA), a body formed to look after the welfare of the employees.
The employees have not got salary for the last 15 months. Only a month’s salary was paid last week.
Work at the otherwise busy council office came to a standstill on Day 1 of the strike.
A source said authorities tried to persuade the employees in the morning not to go ahead with the strike but NGEA turned down all requests.
