Shillong Lajong lock horns with Pailan Arrows today
SHILLONG: Fresh from their 1-0 victory over HAL, Shillong Lajong FC would look to further consolidate their position when they take on Pailan Arrows in a Round 19 I-League match in Kolkata on Sunday.
Arrows who shared a point against Salgaocar SC in their last encounter will be on a high as they search for the elsusive first win of the season at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday. The fact that Arrows have been given immunity status in the I-League would definitely work to their advantage and it would not be an easy task for the Reds who are desperate to edge past sides like Air India and Spoting in the points table.
Though Arrows are yet to register their first victory, the hosts have done well to hold top teams like East Bengal, Salgaocar, Prayag United and Pune FC.
Exuding confidence on his boys, Arrows technical director Sukhwinder Singh said: “It’s just that we have not been able to convert the chances that came our way. The team is in high spirit especially after the last game against Salgaocar.”
Lajong on the other hand would not like to settle for anything less than a win to drive home the advantage before they take on mighty East Bengal at home.
The team from Shillong would also bank upon its new recruits Rennedy Singh and Sushil Kumar Singh to maintain its winning streak.
Lajong coach Pradyum Reddy was all praise for the Arrows.
“Arrows are young, competitive and an organised squad and that is quite evident from the way they played their last match.”
“It is not going to be an easy game for us and we will have to play extremely well to pocket three points to secure ourselves from relegation zone.”
