After the election campaign the state is witnessing another big campaign for the Measles-Rubella vaccination that will start on Monday. The state government has gone all out to allay fears and superstitions. A senior official said it is an Herculean task as the government is looking to vaccinate 13 lakh children.
Innovative campaigns, both by the government and private entities, public meets, workshops for the media and religious leaders, stand-up comedy and rallies in all districts are some of the initiatives taken before the big day.
The East Khasi Hills district health society has developed Motivational Video Clips as part of the promotional activities.
Facebook, WhatsApp, television and radio stations and local cable news — all media tools have been employed in this “mother of all campaigns”.
The health minister too played an important role in the campaigning by appealing to parents to take their children for vaccination against the deadly diseases.
Students in many schools are also doing their part in spreading awareness, especially in rural area. Children of Dobaki Playschool in Tura recently made pictorial representation depicting the importance of the vaccine.
Their posters have been appreciated.
The government had organised regular seminars and workshops, awareness programmes and meets, involving all stakeholders, in the run-up to the launch of the campaign.
