BSF seizes 7 gold biscuits, cough syrup worth over Rs 6 lakh

SHILLONG: The Border Security Force troops deployed at Pyrdwah in East Khasi Hills intercepted a vehicle and detained two Indian nationals on Friday. The duo were later identified as Kolet Khongjee (53), S/o (L) Aswel Khongthohrem, Zuhep Khongram (39), S/o Hemring Kharrymba, both residents of Nongtyngur under Pynrsula PS in East Khasi Hills. 7
gold biscuits worth around Rs 22,65,410 were recovered from their possession.
They revealed that the consignment was received near IB at Lynghat – Pyrdwah border road from one Bangladeshi national, Raja, resident of Panthumai under Gowinghat PS in Sylhet.
It was also revealed that the gold buiscuits were supposed to be delivered to a person at Shillong. They also revealed the name of some people involved in the illegal gold trade.
In another incident, a vehicle loaded with cartons of suspected contraband was intercepted near Iron Bridge (over river Piyang) on National Highway 40 in Dawki (East Khasi Hills) on Thursday.
The driver, Charles Khongboshi (48), from Pynursla was apprehended by BSF troops when he was heading towards Dawki. The special operation party recovered 4,680 bottles of Practin syrup worth over Rs 6.66 lakh.
The drivers and the seized items were handed over to the department concerned for further action.
