SHILLONG: Speaker Donkupar Roy did not allow any discussion on Harijan Colony in the House on Monday saying the matter was sub-judice.
Congress legislator PT Sawkmie was to raise a short discussion in the Assembly on the formation of the High Level Committee on Harijan Colony relocation.
However, the Speaker read out that the Urban Affairs Department wrote a letter to the Assembly Secretariat that the Harijan Colony issue is pending with the high court of Meghalaya.
Besides, he said the issue is also pending with the National Commission for Minorities and the National Human Rights Commission.
Being sub-judice, the discussion on the matter is exempted as per the conduct of rules of the Assembly, Roy said.
“The members should not carry out discussion related to issues on which a judicial decision is pending,” he added.
