Ampati: As part of the series of events being conducted across South West Garo Hills district to mark the Rashtriya Poshan Maah or National Nutrition Month, a Cycle Rally to spread the message of nutrition to the people was held at Ampati on Wednesday.
Spearheaded by CDPOs of Betasing and Zikzak ICDS Projects and Education department, the rally was held in convergence with Swachh Bharat Mission (G), NRLM, ICPS teams and the Police department. Hundreds of school children participated in the rally with placards in their cycles displaying slogans on health and nutrition and cleanliness and sanitation. The cycle rally started from Ghasura tri-junction and finished at Ampati Bazar. Right behind the cyclists was a procession by Anganwadi workers, students, teachers and SHGs who also carried placards with messages on nutrition.
A brief programme followed at the Farmers’ Market, Ampati,where songs and skits on the importance of nutrition were performed by Anganwadi Workers. CDPO, Zikzak M.O.T.Sangma addressed the participants at the gathering and highlighted the objectives of National Nutrition Month , which is to reduce stunting, under-nutrition, anaemia among young children, women and adolescent girls and reduce low birth weight. She said the month is being celebrated across the nation with various activities and programmes throughout the month.
DSEO, Ampati, C.J. Sangma and CDPO, Betasing, Tengrimbal Sangma, were among others who also spoke on the occasion, while the ICPS team gave a brief talk on the consequences of teenage pregnancy and also gave a demonstration on hand washing techniques.
