Assam spends Rs 1.60 cr to buy book on Deendayal Upadhyay

GUWAHATI: Assam government has spent  Rs 1.60 crore to procure books on biographical account of RSS ideologue and Bharatiya Jana Sangh co-founder Deendayal Upadhyay.

Assam Assembly was informed about it by Cultural Affairs (only Library and Archeology matters) minister Keshab Mahanta in response to an unstarred question raised by Congress MLA Debabrata Saikia on Wednesday .

The minister informed the state government had bought 4,000 copies of a 15-volumn book on Upadhyay, amounting to total 60,000 copies. An amount of Rs 1.60 crore was spent for buying these 60,000 copies, which were procured from New Delhi-based Prabhat Prakashan.

The books have been supplied to different libraries and educational and other institutions across the state, the minister added. The minister also informed that there is no proposal to procure such biographical books on any other personalities, including those from Assam.
