SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed Meghalaya Assembly on Thursday that there were existing job vacancies across all categories in various government departments in reply to a question raised by Congress MLA George Lyngdoh.
In the circulated reply, the CM stated that information is being collected on the steps taken to fill up the vacant posts.
Lyngdoh pointed out that the answers were contradictory as to how did the government know there were vacancies when information was still being collected.
To this, Sangma said there are a number of departments in the state government and maintained that it was not a small and easy task to collect information. He said, “Some information has come and some are yet to come in. Some departments have given information and some have not.” He said the collection of information was a huge exercise.
Lyngdoh asserted that the departments should be alert and swift to provide information so that people became aware of existing vacancies. He pointed out that there was no system for updating besides delay in seeking approval for recruitment against vacant posts. He said that there were departments with no man-power at all at a time large number of educated unemployed in the state were verging on becoming overage to be eligible to apply for these jobs.
Observing that many educated youth of the state may get overage, he urged the CM to streamline the system. The CM said not everything was on a standstill as the process for recruitment was on.
Congress MLA Mayralborn Syiem maintained that the process should not take too long , to which Conrad said, “We will definitely examine the matter.”
Replying to a supplementary query by Congress MLA HM Shangpliang, Conrad said there were different processes involved and the government was collecting the latest information.
