Rima Das to get Rs 1 crore from Assam government to promote Village Rockstars

GUWAHATI: Rima Das, director and producer of Village Rockstars which is India’s official entry for the 2019 Oscars in the Best Foreign Language film category, will receive another Rs 50 lakh from the state government, according to an announcement made by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday.

It is to be mentioned, the state government had earlier granted Rs 50 lakh to Rima Das and now a total amount of Rs 1 crore will be provided to the filmmaker.  This is meant for helping the filmmamker and director to promote her film among the jury members of Academy awards.

Rima Das expressed her happiness for Village Rockstars being selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars and she also thanked the state government and people of Assam for the tremendous support when she called on the chief minister today at his office chamber at Assam Legislative Assembly. Sonowal extended his best wishes to the filmmaker for the incredible success of the film and hoped that Village Rockstars would be able to win the coveted Oscars in Best Foreign Language film category apart from highlighting the state’s quintessential splendour in front of the global audience.

Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, MoS for Education Department Pallab Lochan Das, Chairman of Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation Ltd. Jatin Bora were also present during the meeting.
