SHILLONG: Following the demand for Sohra district, the Dorbar of Elaka Umniuh-Tmar Sirdarship have maintained that they do not want to be included in the proposed Sohra district since the Elaka falls under the jurisdiction of Pynursla Civil Sub-Division.
In a meeting held on September 29, the Dorbar discussed the matter. Sirdar of the Elaka, P.S. Khongbeh said he became aware of the demand for Sohra district which will include Shella and other places.
“When it comes to official purposes or even travelling to and fro, it is much easier for us to go to Pynursla or Shillong rather than going all the way to Sohra,” he said.
He added there is no opposition to the upgradation of Sohra to a district but it does not want to fall under the jurisdiction of Sohra district, if the demand materialises.
The Elaka of Umniuh-Tmar also falls under Shella Assembly constituency, Khongbeh said that the constituency is a different matter altogether.
He added that they will meet the concern authorities in the coming days to seek clarification on the boundaries and the areas included in the demand for Sohra district.
