SHILLONG: The state government on Friday held discussions on the increasing prices of petrol and diesel but no decision was taken as Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is out of station.
Sources said the matter would be taken up with the chief minister before any decision on reduction of taxes on petroleum products.
During the meeting, many officials were of the view that the Centre should understand that smaller states like Meghalaya and other northeastern states with limited resources would not be able to take such shocks after reducing taxes.
The state is charging 22 per cent tax on a litre of petrol and 13.5 per cent tax on a litre of diesel.
Six BJP-ruled states, including the neighbouring Assam, have slashed fuel prices by Rs 2.50.
