I am extremely sad to read the letter by Dr A D Roye “GNLA – communal to the core (ST. 31st Jan 2012). I wonder from which ‘tunnel of dirt’ he has picked such dirty opinions. Does he mean that the Garos are having a gala time with the GNLA ravaging their homeland? Does he imply that the Garos are supporting the GNLA? Is he blind to the fact that it has been the Garos who were shot dead by the GNLA ( the killing in Ampatti , Challang , Chokpot , etc.)? Also, the recent torching of the house belonging to a surrendered GNLA cadre seems to be just a festive firework for Dr A D Roye. And how can he say that all the non-Garo Government employees should be transferred back to Khasi Hills? Government employees are guaranteed their salaries but what about all the other non-Garo shopkeepers , vendors , masons , etc, who are struggling to make ends meet? Will Dr A D Roye guarantee them jobs or at least their everyday meal ? It seems the doctor is unaware that even poor farmers (even Garos) are not spared from extortion. But of course , they are not doctors, engineers and officers for their names to be flashed in newspapers. Such cruel opinions are not expected from a highly educated person. He has spread the deadly poison of communalism.
I request Dr A D Roye to understand the ground reality before ending up with such heartless conclusions. Think of the common, innocent people who work in different places to earn their bread. Do you want them to end their lives mercilessly? Do you think that the GNLA are building paradise in Garo Hills ? Have you seen the GNLA involved in the ‘Run for peace’ and ‘Disease Awareness Programmes ? Where on earth do you see militant groups being a blessing to their tribe and people? So please do not espouse such meaningless and cruel thoughts and kill the existing social harmony. Meghalaya is beautiful because of its tribes and people. Don’t try to degrade it and bring disgrace to humanity. Instead, try to kill the evil of hatred , greed , jealously , etc from the human heart. I hope no one else comes up with such cruel thoughts as yours.
