SHILLONG: Pravin Bakshi, Health and Family Welfare secretary and Mission Director of the National Health Mission, has said North Garo Hills has done a follow-up on the news report that four children were taken ill after Measles-Rubella vaccine and now they are better.
The District Immunisation Officer of North Garo Hills visited the children and interacted with them, Bakshi said.
“The symptoms are unrelated and minor. The MR vaccines are WHO certified and tested and completely safe,” he added.
Besides Bakshi’s children, those of deputy commissioners and doctors also got vaccinated.
“More than 1.75 lakh children have already been vaccinated in the state and they are safe and protected,” he said.
To wipe out Measles and Rubella, every child needs to be vaccinated, he said.
“We understand the concerns of parents but the bigger worry are the two deadly diseases like polio and small pox which need to be eradicated,” Bakshi said.
According to the official, though four children were taken to Resubelpara CHC, there was no sign and symptoms related to Adverse Event Following Immunisation and they were discharged immediately from OPD. NGH doctors visited their home and the children were fine.
Earlier, a teacher of Jamgaon Government LP School, PG Momin, called up 108 Ambulance and informed that four students were feeling sick due to MR vaccine provided in the school.
After pre-hospital care given by the Resubelpara-based 108 team, they were shifted to the CHC there by the ambulance.
