SHILLONG: KHADC chief executive member HS Shylla said he would meet Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong “to get a notification in black and white” to ensure no uranium mining takes place in the state.
Tynsong on Monday had criticised Shylla for taking a decision to not issue no-objection certificate (NOC) for the Nongstoin-Wahkaji-Phlangdiloin-Ranikor road citing uranium issue.
Shylla told reporters that before the KHADC grants NOC to the two-lane road project of Nongstoin-Wahkaji-Ranikor, he would meet Tynsong to discuss the contentious uranium mining and the road project.
The recent meeting convened by the KHADC with public representatives from West and South West Khasi Hills and organisations like the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Langrin Youth Welfare Association (LYWA) failed to break the deadlock as the pressure groups opposed the road project.
“The decision of the KHADC to not issue NOC for the Nongstoin-Wahkaji-Ranikor is not a final one,” Shylla said, adding that the strong opposition prompted the KHADC to not issue NOC.
