Rio expresses concern
KOHIMA: Expressing concern over the increasing migrant population in the foothill areas of Nagaland, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Friday admitted that there were “problems” in checking the influx under the present regulatory mechanism. Talking to newsmen on the sidelines of a function here, Rio said, “Since inner line regulation can be enforced in the hill sections of the state, such inflow of migrants are being regulated but the problem is in Dimapur and in the foothills along Assam-Nagaland border areas.” Rio said the state government had informed both the Union Home Ministry and the Assam government about the existence of rebel camps in the disputed area belt (DAB) of Assam-Nagaland border. Woman burnt alive
GUWAHATI: A woman was burnt alive for allegedly practising witchcraft in Assam’s Sibsagar district, police said on Friday. Phuleswari Halua (45), a mother of five children, was burnt alive by some residents of Jolah village in the district on Thursday night. A massive hunt has been launched to nab the culprits. (PTI)
Six militants nabbed
IMPHAL: A councilor of Langthabal ward number six identified as S Sanatomba was held on Thursday by police from Moirangkhom. Based on his statement four members of Coordinating committee were held with arms and ammunitions. Police also charged them of carrying out attacks on Congress candidates during the recently held Assembly elections. Three other militants were also nabbed by police in a separate operation on Thursday night. (UNI)
Women demand protection
IMPHAL: Women Action for Development (WAD) has demanded that the government should ensure right to life, control proliferation of small arms and respect rule of law. WAD Coordinator Kh Madina said, “Despite all efforts from various civil societies and NGOs, human rights violation are still on rise. Almost every alternate day, killing of innocent people are reported in the state.’ Since January last, 13 people have been killed, which was claimed by JACs as fake encounters, she said. (UNI)
