SHILLONG: The Assembly has notified the vacant seat of Selsella following the death of sitting Congress MLA Clement Marak.
An assembly official said on Friday that the vacant seat was notified on Thursday and the matter was informed to the Election Commission.
The by-poll will have to be held within six months.
The state had till date four by-polls in Williamnagar, Ampati, South Tura and Ranikor constituencies.
Selsella will be the fifth constituency to face by-poll within a span of seven months. According to sources, the by-poll is unlikely to be held this year due to the festivals.
It is yet to be known whether the Election Commission will announce the by-poll to coincide with the polls for five states, including Mizoram, which have already been announced.
With the vacant Selsella seat, out of the 59 seats, NPP has 20 MLAs and the Congress’s tally has been reduced to 19.
