SHILLONG: Cases of crimes against women should be taken up seriously and expedited, said CSWO president, Agnes Kharshiing.
Earlier, body of 29-year-old Daphibanker Phawa was found with her throat slit at Riatsasim of Iawmusiang locality on Thursday night.
This is the second murder in less than seven months and police are yet to make headway in the earlier case that took place in Khliehriat.
The body of 30-year-old, Fullness Lyngdoh, was found in her bedroom with her throat slit in the month of April.
“It is shocking and sad that women are killed. We condemn the crime and we want that justice should be delivered to the family and compensation should be provided there should be no delay and murders of women should be fast tracked,” she told The Shillong Times.
She also pointed to the death of woman which she alleged was not suicide but murder. “This is a crime against society if a woman is murdered and it has to be taken up seriously by the government,” Kharshiing said.
According to her, more initiatives should be taken up by the state government and the crime should be addressed immediately.
With a number of unsolved murders haunting the state and culprits roaming scot-free, Kharshiing said, “Immediate arrests should be made and there should be no anticipatory bail for such cases of murder.”
She added that there should not be any delay in giving the post mortem report to the victim’s family.
