SHILLONG: After delay of years, the construction work of the   proposed IT park in New Shillong Township has finally started.

Informing this, IT Minister, Hamlet DOhling said that the Government recently signed an agreement with a private company and the work began just few days.

Stating that the work for the building would be completed within two years, he added that the proposed budget of the project was more than Rs  29 crore  though the total estimate of the entire project was more than Rs  500 crore and government wants to develop the infrastructure one by one.

He also maintained that the government will ensure that there was proper power and internet supply to the project besides well-established road network

The government’s vision is to develop an IT Park in New Shillong where 450 youths will be employed. The project is complicated as the State has to compete with metro cities like Bangalore, Pune and Kolkata. The department is also contemplating road shows to invite IT players after the government’s nod on the final model.

The project has been delayed for years though the Urban Affairs department provided the land to the IT department for the IT park long time back.

It is learnt that the Government would decide about the facilities once the building is completed.
