UDP gets 5 applications for council polls in Ranikor

MAWKYRWAT: The UDP has received five applications, including one from a government employee, for the district council election from Ranikor constituency in South West Khasi Hills.
DE Turnia, secretary of UDP Ranikor Circle and acting secretary of the election committee, said all the five applicants were leaders and supporters of the party.
“The aspirants include secretary of the Youth Wing and Media Cell UDP Ranikor Circle and resident of Umpung village R Bahunlang Sanglein Basan, former president of NPP South West Khasi Hills and resident of Thangrai Nongnah Lastborn Pariong, senior working president of UDP Ranikor Circle and resident of Nongjri village Nassar N Marwein, Pearl Stone Wanniang from Rangthong village and one supporter of the party who was still on government service,” Turnia said.
Turnia informed that the party’s election committee held a meeting on October 19 to discuss the council election and about candidates.
“We have decided to postpone the last date of receiving application for the party ticket till October 25,” he added.
“Though there are many aspirants who are applying for the party ticket but it is interesting because all of them have the same goal, that is, to support any candidate that gets the ticket so that the party can win the election,” Turnia said.
