SHILLONG: The district council election next year will be the turning point for the Congress, MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh has said.
The Congress leader also does not see any threat from the NPP, “which is in the first innings”.
“I have a feeling that in Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills, the basic understanding of ideologies of the NPP is vague. We still don’t have a clear picture of its programme, plans and policies,” she recently told media persons.
The Congress has announced deadlines for applying for ticket. Lyngdoh sounded optimistic about the Congress regaining strength in district councils where the party has lost power.
“I do not anticipate that we will have too much of a problem. Some of the former MLAs who did not make it in 2018 will also move in and will have a role to play in the council election,” she added.
All the three district councils are governed by NPP coalitions.
