New Delhi: Handcrafted collections of textiles, crafts, paintings, jewellery and accessories are among the wide range of items being showcased at the Shilpkala Utsav, an annual women artisans’ crafts bazaar here.
Organised by All India Women’s Conference, the three-day event aims at empowerment of women artisans by serving as a direct artisans to consumer platform.
The event featuring an array of eco-friendly handicraft items — woven bamboo baskets, diyas, cushion covers, bags, terracotta artefacts, crockery — by 60 women artisans, was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Aga Khan Hall.
“I am happy that we are able to offer a platform for the women artisans who are making handmade products. Our motto at AIWC is to empower women at all levels including the grass root level. “The initiative will help build the confidence of women to become successful entrepreneurs in the years to come,” Rakesh Dhawan, AIWC President, said.
Besides offering women artisans a platform to sell their traditional crafts, the festival also gives them a chance to demonstrate their skills for public. Organisers added that the stalls were offered to these women free of cost.
“Women connect to the environment very closely, instinctively and traditionally. They can come up with unique ways to protect as well as work with and around environment without exploiting it. “AIWC Secretary General, said. (PTI)
