TURA: Scripting history for the institution and the entire Garo Hills region as a whole, an ovarian tumor weighting 22 Kgs was successfully operated upon and removed from a 23-year-old patient at Maternity and Child Health (MCH) Hospital in Tura.

This is for the first time in the history of Garo Hills and the Maternity hospital that this kind of huge tumor has been operated successfully. The tumor was removed from a patient hailing from Baghmara in South Garo Hills District.

The operation was led by Dr Vince Chimpoo M Momin (Gynaecologist) along with Dr Blandina Marak (Anaesthetist) and assisted by Dr Bithi  Sangma (Senior medical officer), Dr Azuma Shira, Cris Noel Sangma and Arnold Momin (OT Assistants).

When Contacted, Dr Vince Momin said that the patient was being treated by a local quack in the village for the past 2 years before they sought medical advice. She was admitted to the hospital last week and surgery was performed on Wednesday.

Dr Momin informed that Tumor ranging from 8 to 10 kgs are operated normally in the Maternity hospital but that the procedure for a 22 kg tumor is something which has been done for the first time in Tura.

“It is a proud moment for all of us at the MCH as well as for the entire health department as a whole,” Momin remarked.
