37 minor students fall ill consuming Jetropha fruit in Tripura

Agartala: As many as 37 minor students fell ill after they allegedly consumed of Jetropha fruit on Monday during school hour in a plantation in Thakchhera village under Amarpur sub-division in south-east Tripura.

All of the students were first taken to Amarpur sub-divisional hospital. Later nine of them had been shifted to Udaipur district hospital with three of them in critical condition. Police has launched an investigation into the incident.

Principal Secretary, Education department Banamali Sinha however, told media here on Tuesday the department had ordered an inquiry into the incident separately and civil administration was asked to provide necessary support to the families of the victims.

Meanwhile, former minister and senior Congress leader Jawhar Saha alleged that the headmaster was attending a conference of the Left Front backed teachers’ association in Agartala and half of the other teachers were absent in the school on Monday. (UNI)
