SHILLONG: Though the KHADC has passed the ILP bill and a related resolution, the stand of the state government on the matter will be a hurdle for getting nod from the governor.
CM Conrad Sangma has already indicated the stand of the government since it is planning to complete the entry and exit points instead of ILP. Conrad had also questioned the jurisdiction of KHADC on matters related to ILP though council chief HS Shylla pointed out the special power of KHADC to implement ILP.
In the past, several pro-ILP groups had demanded implementation of ILP but the government had rejected it and instead suggested the need to set up exit and entry points.
Like the previous Congress-led government, the current NPP-led MDA government is also following up the issue of entry and exit points. Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong recently said the state government will take a call when the matter is referred to it by the KHADC. He also downplayed division in the party over the issue by saying though Shylla is with NPP, the KHADC is party less.
The KHADC had the legal mandate to pass bills, he said.
