Tripura orders lynching probe

Agartala: The Tripura government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the lynching of a tribal woman by branding her as a witch at Chalitabankul in South Tripura district, a top official said on Wednesday. Chief Secretary S K Panda said the government had ordered a magistrate level inquiry into the killing and beating of two villagers, and DGP was also asked to undertake a separate investigation into it, he told reporters. A group of villagers attacked house of Dharmasree Tripura (60) at Chalitabankul in Sabroom subdivision on Friday and took her and two of her relatives to a nearby jungle. Dharmasree was allegedly lynched and her two relatives seriously injured. (PTI)

 Six rebels held in Manipur

Imphal: Altogether six militants, including a woman cadre, have been apprehended in three separate incidents. Superintendent of Police, Imphal East, Clay on Wednesday said a combined team of local police and 30 Assam Rifles arrested two People’s Liberation Army (PLA) cadres and recovered some ammunition from them. Later, two more PLA cadres were arrested from the area, while three M-16 arms were recovered from them. Continuing the operation police and 28 Assam Rifles arrested two Kangleipal Communist Party KCP (K K Nganba) cadres namely, Phijam Rainson and Sapam Thoinaoba and a Chinese hand grenade was recovered from their possession.
