SHILLONG: Opposition Leader, Mukul Sangma has accused the MDA government of insensitively dealing with the issue of border dispute with Assam.
Addressing a Press conference here on Tuesday, Sangma said that the state government must engage with counterpart state as the present situation along the inter-state border could boil down to law and order problems.
Terming Assam as aggressor, he questioned if the State Government including Chief Secretary, DCs and SPs of the inter-state border districts had held discussions with their counterparts from Assam to ensure law and order along the areas of difference.
Stating that Assam was creating problems one after another, he added that Assam remained quiet and bought time when Meghalaya government submitted necessary documents and papers over its claim in the areas of difference between two states.
“What stops them ( Assam Government) from replying to our claims. May be they felt they could not build a strong case over their claims and so they are quiet,” he said
Asserting that the issue couldn’t be solved until the issue is politicised by political parties of both the states, he urged political parties of both the states to be unanimous in their approach towards solving the long pending boundary dispute.
It may be mentioned that the talks at the level of either the Chief Minister or Chief Secretary of both Assam and Meghalaya have not taken place since long time while skirmishes continue to happen along the border
