SHILLONG: The state government has maintained that there is no outbreak of the H1N1 virus in Meghalaya.
The statement comes in the wake of the death of a woman, diagnosed with swine flu, in a city hospital on Sunday.
Talking to media persons, Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek said the government has sounded alert in the entire state, especially in airports.
Maintaining that there is no outbreak of the virus, he assured that the government has taken measures to ensure that the situation does not go out of control.
When asked if many people have stopped eating pork in the state, the minister said he cannot comment anything on the matter since the virus has not been generated from the state.
The 58-year-old woman, who passed away recently, was admitted at Nazareth Hospital on October 17. She had symptoms like fever, cough, weakness and respiratory distress after visiting her son in Pune.
Another 29-year-old woman from Mumbai, also quarantined at Nazareth Hospital after testing positive for H1N1, was admitted on October 24 after developing fever, weakness and headache.
She came to Shillong to attend a Catholic convention on October 18 and her condition is stable.
