MAWKYRWAT: The FKJGP of South West Khasi Hills will be conducting inspections in various parts of the district on account of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council’s (KHADC) failure to prevent non-tribals from illegally running businesses without valid trading licences.
General Secretary of the FKJGP South West Khasi Hill Balse Kharbani said that the Federation has taken up the decision after receiving information that most of the non-tribals in Photkroh, Ranikor, Nongjri and Borsohra area of South West Khasi Hills do not have valid trading licences. He also said that most of the labourers working in these areas do not have proper documents.
“We have received information that most of the non-tribals that run businesses in these areas do not have trading licences and with the inability of the KHADC to conduct regular checking, it has prompted us to take up the decision,” Kharbani said.
Kharbani also said that with nearly 40 lakh people left out of the Final draft of the NRC in Assam, there was a possibility that many of them would attempt to enter Meghalaya and take shelter in border villages.
In this regard, Kharbani requested the people of the district along with the headmen to cooperate with the federation.
